Maybe this is why they’re called “angel families.”
The mother of a man killed with his new bride last year by an illegal alien in an Oregon traffic crash confronted the foreign national in a powerful video published Monday by Fox News.
And while fury and vengeance might have been on most people’s minds, Elizabeth Carter’s words were exactly the opposite.
NEW: ICE’s Victims of Immigrant Crime Engagement (VOICE) office has released emotional video showing Angel Mom Elizabeth Carter confronting the Indian illegal alien semi truck driver who is charged with killing her son and his newlywed wife in a crash in Oregon last November.
The exchange happened as ICE was transferring RAJINDER KUMAR to state custody in Oregon earlier this month to face charges of two counts of first degree manslaughter and three counts of recklessly endangering another person as a result of the crash. ICE gave Carter a chance to speak to KUMAR in an ICE vehicle before the transfer.
ICE says they had arrested KUMAR after law enforcement in Deschutes County, OR ignored their detainer and released him from custody in April.
Kumar had been caught and released at the AZ border by the Biden admin in November 2022 and was given a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) by the state of California.
In the video – an emotional Carter says:
“Hello Mr. Kumar. My name is Elizabeth Carter. I’m William Micah Carter’s mother. And I wanted you to know that I pray for you and your family, I know you didn’t get up that morning planning to kill two newlyweds. And I know your family is going through something important too.”
Kumar largely avoids eye contact and doesn’t say anything.

Fox News’ Bill Melugin, who posted the video released by the federal government to his account on the social media platform X, did not describe the circumstances of the meeting in detail, saying only that it had taken place “earlier this month.”
The immigrant — Rajinder Kumar — was being transferred from the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to Oregon state authorities to face manslaughter charges and other charges.
ICE agents granted Carter access to Kumar during the transfer, Fox News reported.
“Hello, Mr. Kumar,” Carter said. “My name is Elizabeth Carter; I’m William Micah Carter’s mother,” she told Kumar, choking with emotion.
“And I wanted you to know that I pray for you and your family, I know you didn’t get up that morning planning to kill two newlyweds. And I know your family is going through something important, too.”
Kumar, 32, gazed at her without response.

At the time of the crash, Kumar had jackknifed the tractor-trailer he was driving across both lanes of U.S. Highway 20 in Deschutes County, Oregon, according to Fox. He was had a commercial driver’s license issued by the state of California.
Carter’s son, William, and his new wife, Jennifer, had been married only 16 days at the time.
Carter’s demeanor during her meeting with Kumar doesn’t mean she’s not passionate about her son’s death — and reducing the chances that it can happen to others.
In September, she testified before Congress, demanding mass deportation of illegal aliens who entered the country during the administration of former President Joe Biden. Kumar, an Indian national, was one of them.
According to Fox News, Kumar entered the country in 2022. He was released by the Biden administration and later given work authorization and the ultimately deadly driver’s license he received from California.
Plenty of comments on the Carter video were furious about that background.
@BillMelugin_ @Pasquinalle There is no way I could ever forgive this illegal alien criminal. Those that issued him a CDL should be prosecuted.

I’m sorry but this is why we’re losing out country. Kumar couldn’t care less about the people he killed, but she prays for HIM and his family. Modern Christianity lacks the will to survive.

Nobody here illegally should be behind the wheel of a semi. Whatever happens at trial, unlawful presence alone makes him removable, and an ICE detainer should mean he goes to ICE, not back on the road, when the case ends. Legal immigrants pay for these failures too.

Heartbreaking. Elizabeth Carter lost her son and his new bride, and no family should have to go through that. Why was this driver ever behind the wheel of a semi in this country?

“Angel Families” has become a term widely adopted for the survivors of victims of crimes committed by illegal aliens. It is also the name of an organization founded by a naturalized American citizen whose son was killed by an illegal alien in 2002.
But Carter’s behavior while meeting with her son’s killer might have given the term a whole new twist.
She’s a better person than I am.
