Not on Our Watch – HotAir

UPDATED: A man charged the magnetometer outside the ballroom where the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner was being held.

The Secret Service fired a number of shots at him, killing him before he was able to enter the room. He appears to have breached some of the security layers before being engaged by the Secret Service.

Trump wants the program to resume, but it is unclear whether the President will continue. The Secret Service appears…reluctant…but the president seems eager to go on.

Another view of the chaos:

The room is on lockdown, but they have announced that the event will go on in some way.

Erika Kirk was at the podium:

From backstage:

Hello from backstage.

We’re in a hold behind the stage right now. Staff are going out to reset the head table.

POTUS never left and is down the hall from me. He wants the show to go on.

We’re told by his detail someone tried to get through the mags with a gun. The counter assault team did their job (unclear what that means) and the subject is now offsite.

POTUS was evacuated to a hold – the rest of us from the head table are down the hall from him. Secret service had to determine if there were any other threats, we are being told there are no threats.

The building is NOT being evacuated.

We are waiting for staff to reset head table to resume the program.

UPDATE:

The President will NOT be speaking tonight. The event is being canceled at the request of law enforcement.

Reports are that the first shot came from the shooter. He apparently hit a Secret Service officer in the vest, and the agent returned fire. Apparently, the shooter is alive.

FROM THE OLD POST:

The Secret Service ushered Trump, Vance, and members of the Cabinet to the shock of everybody in the room. What was supposed to be an interesting night of the frenemies has become something else.

There don’t appear to be  any injuries reported yet.

UPDATES:

The New York Times reports that the president and First Lady are still at the hotel, likely because moving him is not considered safe yet.

The White House press pool, the group of reporters that travels with the president, is reporting that the president is still at the Washington hotel that serves as the setting for the correspondent’s dinner. “The pool is still at the Hilton as of 8:56, which means POTUS hadn’t departed yet,” according to the pool report.

In addition to the president, First Lady and Vice President, many members of the president’s cabinet and senior staff were in attendance at the dinner. Among the attendees: Scott Bessent, the Treasury secretary; Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence; Sean Duffy, the transportation secretary; Karoline Leavitt, the press secretary; Steven Cheung, the White House communications director; and Kash Patel, the director of the F.B.I.

CNN reports that the shooter is dead.

🚨🇺🇸BREAKING: A suspect has been killed by Secret Service in the lobby of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

-Trump and First Lady Melania dramatically evacuated less than 30 minutes after arriving

-Attendees reported loud sounds and Secret Service agents yelling

-Reports of a shooter circulated immediately after the evacuation

-Secret Service confirmed the suspect was neutralized inside the Washington Hilton

-President was set to deliver his first WHCD remarks as president tonight

-The President is safe. The First Lady is safe.

The full picture is still developing.

BEEGE sent this along to me. Leftists are already claiming it was a hoax.
