Anti-ICE ‘Activists’ Putting Up Checkpoints in Minneapolis – HotAir

As the optimists prayed that Tom Homan’s arrival would help calm things down in Minneapolis, I expressed my skepticism.

With good reason. The optimists made a few very questionable assumptions that I knew to be wrong, not the least of which is that Governor Walz, AG Ellison, and Mayor Frey actually want to restore public order.

All three of them are facing existential threats, and the chaos has been very good for them. They are fighting Trump, and basking in the glow of approval from the AWFLs, the Star Tribune (run by a Governor Walz toady), and the national media. Every Democrat around the country is joining in the struggle against deporting pedophiles, and many are actually talking about using state resources to impede law enforcement.

Since Homan’s arrival, Governor Walz has increased the heat of his rhetoric, specifically referencing John Brown and Fort Sumter—both of which helped start the Civil War.

Speaking of which…the ICE activists are escalating from their Signal groups, which are less reliable now that they have been infiltrated occasionally, to actual roadblocks with…ID checks.

I kid you not. Building walls and asking for your papers to let you through.

They have not, as yet, sprung up all over the city, and it is unclear if Mayor Frey will let them become a “thing,” but this is exactly the sort of escalation that should not surprise. Activists have been shadowing and even vandalizing cars they only suspect might be ICE-related, which includes more than a few rental cars that ordinary visitors have gotten. “Confirmed ICE” is apparently a very fluid to meaningless category.

As I wrote yesterday, the activists are getting bolder about simply assaulting people out in the open, and there seems to be no police protection for anybody when they get attacked by the anti-ICE crowd. The prevailing feeling seems to be that it is your fault that you pissed off the righteous revolutionaries, especially if you are identifiably not in their corner.

The activists have First Amendment rights, while nobody else does. The Brownshirts get to beat you up.

Riots are escalating in other parts of the country, and again, the goal is about more than creating chaos. The point is to create victims who can become martyrs. Mothers are bringing their children to riots now, and the left-wing politicians pick up the rallying cry that ICE is hurting children.

It is the Hamas strategy—put the civilians in harm’s way, and then parade around with the bloody shirt. It is morally disgusting, but obviously, the left believes it works politically, and it seems pretty evident that the left sees children as a great political tool.

In a sane world, child protective services would be investigating parents who bring their children to riots, but we are a long way from a sane world. AWFLs are doing TikToks explaining that their children are no more valuable than anybody else. That is psychopathy, but that seems to be the norm these days.

The Black Bloc is literally taking over our streets, and the establishment is cheering them on.

What is unclear to me about this latest tactic of putting up blockades is whether Frey will see this as a good escalation or a bad one for his own political future. Unlike riots that are localized in moderately bad neighborhoods, these could impact otherwise sympathetic upper-middle-class supporters of his.

Activists are supposed to impede everybody else, not them.

With that said, I’m not sure the Black Bloc actually cares what he thinks. They have the upper hand right now and are reveling in the power. And many of the fellow travelers are whipped up into a frenzy, and probably won’t listen even to him and Walz if they ask them to back off.

Editor’s note: If we thought our job in pushing back against the Academia/media/Democrat censorship complex was over with the election, think again. This is going to be a long fight.
