6-year-old drunk girl at Maryland school sent to hospital with alcohol poisoning

A 6-year-old girl attending Princeton Elementary School in Suitland drank something that sent her to the hospital with alcohol poisoning, according to news reports.

The young student went to the nurse’s office after recess on Tuesday, feeling woozy and disoriented. The school called her mom, who went to the school to find out what happened.

“Upon me asking her a question, ‘Do you remember what you drank?’ she said, ‘It was red, but it tasted like Kool-Aid,’” the mom, whose name was withheld to protect her daughter’s identity, told WRC-TV on Friday.

The girl was taken to a hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with alcohol poisoning.

Prince George’s County Public Schools told WRC-TV that “school staff responded promptly and followed established emergency protocols to ensure the student received appropriate medical care” and that Child Protective Services was notified.

The mom said the girl did not get the alcoholic drink from the family’s home. She told the TV station that she wants a thorough investigation into the matter.
