Mayor Michelle Wu is definitely good for business from a ‘She did/said WHAT?!‘ point of view.
I mean, there are boatloads to write about. Controversies and scandals of all sizes have plagued her administration, and yet the mayor, who first arrived in the Boston area when she began attending Harvard, somehow still enjoys pretty decent approval ratings (right now around in the 41% bracket.).
How, I don’t know, but that’s a Mid-Atlantic/New England thing. Almost to a one, these states have cookie-cutter awful governors and big-city mayors who keep their jobs with little to no problem.
It had to be a whale of a bummer for the uber-progressive Wu and the Boston City Council when Trump vanquished their girl in November. So they started laying the groundwork for their resistance efforts before Christmas.
A good chunk of that is wrapped around the illegal immigrants the Biden administration allowed to flood the country and the many who have found their way to Massachusetts and Boston, which are self-described ‘sanctuary’ areas.
The Boston City Council made it official prior to Trump’s taking office.
BREAKING: @BOSCityCouncil voted 13-0 on a resolution to reaffirm the Trust Act, which declares Boston as a sanctuary city, prevents local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE for immigration enforcement, and protects illegals in their city.

Temps were already starting to heat up at the beginning of the month prior to Wu and other mayors of sanctuary cities testifying before Congress. Border czar Tom Homan clashed with Wu and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox over the city’s refusal to work with the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office regarding detainers and notifications concerning criminal illegals in their city.
…President Donald Trump’s border czar Tom Homan teed off against Boston’s police commissioner in a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference, saying there are at least nine accused “child rapists” in jail who local authorities won’t turn over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He promised to come to Boston and “bring hell with him.”
The feud escalated during Wu’s testimony a few days later. The mayor was plenty ticked off about people having the nerve to tell Boston what they needed.

And then she ripped Homan up for ‘lying’ about her city.
‘Shame on him,’ Wu said.
When Homan heard it afterward, he said he would be sleeping like a baby, knowing he was living rent-free in her head.

In the interim, ICE was busy in Wu’s peaceful town, no thanks to her police force.
Thank Ice Boston. This guy was charged with rape twice. The person who ordered him released should be personally sued by the victims. https://t.co/BQL0m6H1QA

Mayor Wu is ignoring all that ICE scooping up of her illegal, coddled criminals.
Last night, the mayor gave her State of the City address, and besides everything being peachy keen in Beantown, she decided it would be a great opportunity to talk some serious smack at the president.
Woof.

NEW: @MayorWu delivers a sharp threat to Trump’s administration, declaring “Boston does not back down.”
She says, “We stand with immigrants. You belong here”
This comes as House Republicans ramp up calls for Wu’s indictment over sanctuary policies

Stunning. Brave.
And a red flag to a proverbial bull.
In fact, the local CBS station went looking in an effort to debunk Homan’s claims and, well…turns out the best they could do was prove it was MA law in most cases forcing the release of illegal criminals.
Homan’s ‘nine child rapists’ number held up.
Worse – the answers they received from sheriffs they interviewed supported Homan’s assertions of an increase in the number of criminal aliens even further.
It has been a month since Tom Homan, the Trump administration’s Border Czar, told an enthusiastic crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference that he was “bringing hell to Boston.”
…WBZ-TV decided to dig into the press releases of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Massachusetts to see if violent criminals are really being released by Cox or other law enforcemen
…In 2017, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled in a case called Lunn v. Commonwealth that, “Massachusetts law provides no authority for Massachusetts court officers to arrest and hold an individual solely on the basis of a Federal civil immigration detainer, beyond the time that the individual would otherwise be entitled to be released from State custody.”
That means sheriff’s departments are unable to hold someone after they post bail, even if they are wanted by ICE. Sheriffs who want to cooperate with ICE say their hands are tied.
“It’s very frustrating for me to know I might have a drug trafficker or a violent offender, I call ICE and they’re like, we’re very busy with a couple situations, I can’t get there for a few hours. I can’t hold them right now,” said Worcester County Sheriff Lewis Evangelidis.
At the same time, Evangelidis says his jail has seen an increase in ICE detainers placed on inmates.
“We’ve seen the detainers triple in the last three years. We were in the 30s a couple years ago. We exceeded 100 in 2024. To me, that means there are more people illegally in the Commonwealth committing crimes,” he said.
Is Mayor Wu playing with fire for the cameras?
It’s one thing if you’ve got the numbers on your side, but she doesn’t. The state of MA has already spent over half a billion dollars (with a ‘B’) on ‘tax-payer funded shelters for housing migrant and local families.’ It’s not even the end of March yet.
Last summer, MA was already hoping for a federal handout. Those Biden-era migrant FEMA slush funds are probably doomed.
…It’s not clear where the funding to cover the shelter and other costs will come from, but Healey frequently expresses her strong hope that the federal government will soon help replenish the state coffers with funds recently appropriated by Congress for the federal emergency shelter program run by FEMA.
Federal funding may bail out the Bay State in the short term, but the unprecedented influx of migrants engineered by the Biden administration will prove to be a significant burden for Massachusetts taxpayers over the long run. The cost of temporary housing and shelters is enormous — but it pales in comparison to the costs that will accumulate in the future if those in the temporary shelters today remain in the Commonwealth for the long term. These long-term costs include schooling, social services, medical care, public safety, and more. These costs will accrue even if these migrants are able to find jobs, whether with a work permit or through illicit employment. Our research shows that immigrants generally have high labor force participation rates, but because most of the new arrivals lack the education or skills needed for an individual or family to be self-sufficient in Massachusetts, they will continue to access the state’s generous social safety net, much of which is available even to illegal immigrants who settle in the state.
So, the state and the city of Boston will bump up against a rock and a hard spot shortly.
It doesn’t seem as if it is in their best interest – or prudent – for Wu to use a flamethrower when she’s standing athwart the combustibles.
Then again, she’s the Harvard grad.
It’s her vanity and her bonfire.
Let ‘er rip.
