The left wing of an Endeavor Air passenger plane hit the runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Sunday as the pilot attempted a go-around maneuver during an aborted approach.
On Sunday at about 10:10 p.m., the pilot of Endeavor Air flight 4814 had an unstable approach to land while finishing the maneuver and clipped the runway, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The plane landed safely, however, with no injuries reported. There were 80 people on board — 76 passengers, two flight attendants and two pilots, flying from Jacksonville, Florida, to LaGuardia.
“The Endeavor Air flight crew followed established procedures to safely enact a go-around at New York-LaGuardia. The aircraft landed safely and proceeded to its arrival gate. We apologize to our customers for the experience,” a Delta Air Lines spokesperson told NBC News.
Go-arounds are a standard procedure, wherein the pilot aborts their initial approach to land at an airport, regains some altitude, flies around in a loop and then re-attempts the landing.
Endeavor Air is a subsidiary of Delta, which has pulled the aircraft from service so it can be evaluated, according to USA Today.
