Two MN State Officials Shot in the Homes by Gunman Dressed as Law Enforcement UPDATES – HotAir

There isn’t a lot of information yet, but here’s what I have.

Sources have told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS’ Tom Hauser that two Minnesota Lawmakers have been shot.

Minnesota state senator John Hoffman in Champlin and Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman in Brooklyn Park were reportedly shot in their homes by a gunman impersonating a police officer.

A manhunt is currently underway in Brooklyn Park for a man pretending to be a police officer.

The suspect, according to the alert, is a white man with brown hair wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants. Authorities are asking residents not to approach the suspect if spotted.





Brooklyn Park Police Department has put out an advisory and a warning NOT to approach should you encounter or spot the suspect..

They are both Democrats, and Representative Hortman had just voted across party lines to strip illegals out of the Minnesota healthcare system. (Apparently, Speaker Hortman did so as part of a quid pro quo with Republicans to advance the legislation. Sen Hoffman DID NOT vote for it in the state senate.)

Is that a motive or any part of this ghastly event? Too soon to say.

Updating as I hear more on how everyone is doing.

Pray for their health and that they find this maniac STAT.

…Sen. John Hoffman and Rep. Melissa Hortman, as well as their spouses, were shot.   

Hortman recently supported repealing healthcare benefits for illegal aliens.   

The suspect was impersonating a police officer before shooting them, according to police.

OMG Speaker Hortman and her husband were killed. Our prayers and deepest condolences go out to their families.

Senator Hoffman and his wife underwent surgery and are fighting for their lives in the hospital.

Apparently, there was a gunfight between the vile assassin and law enforcement responding to a call about the incident, but he got away.

The cops had been asked to check on the Speaker, and they caught the assassin standing at the door, dressed as a police officer. He started firing and ducked back into the house. Had body armor vest, whole police kit and was driving a police-like SUV.





When police got into the house, there was a male body on the floor. They got him out – Speaker Hortman’s husband – and as they cleared the home after surrounding it, they found her.

The suspect escaped on foot. They have his vehicle.

Brooklyn Park police will only come to your home in pairs. They are warning the public NOT to answer the door if there’s a single officer. Call the police.

MORE: When they searched the vehicle, there was a manifesto with numerous lawmakers on it. They’ve alerted them all.

Again, our prayers to the Hoffmans for a quick recovery. May your doctors, nurses, and surgeons be skilled and gentle.

And our deepest sympathy to the Hortman family and friends. May the good Lord hold the Speaker and her husband close in the Palm of his hand, and their memories always be a blessing to those who loved them so dearly.

News reports are finally catching up.

During a press conference, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety said at about 2 a.m., officers were responding to a call of a shooting at the home of Sen. Hoffman.

While responding, they were asked to check on Hortman’s house. When they arrived, they saw an SUV equipped with lights, mimicking a squad vehicle, and were confronted by a man dressed as an officer. DPS reported the man fired at police, who returned fire, before retreating into the home.

Walz called the shootings a targeted attack. Minnesota DPS reported they found a manifesto while searching the suspect’s vehicle that had a list of other state lawmakers.

“This was an act of targeted political violence,” Walz said.

The Brooklyn Police Department has issued a shelter-in-place order as police look for the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous.





The ‘shelter in place’ order remains in effect and at least one of the NoKings protests has been canceled in the state.

… Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI, are investigating the situation, and they will be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law. Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America. God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place!

Oh, DEAR GOD: This poor woman. Video has emerged of Speaker Hortman after being the only Dem to cross party lines to vote for stripping illegals out of the budget deal – it was an agreement worked out between parties to pass it.

She sounds terrified and so sad.





This is just ghastly. Dear God, it shouldn’t be this way.

You’re not required to sacrifice your life to get ALL of the people’s business done. A compromise between parties doesn’t require that forfiet nor should it even be a consideration. 

Compromise is what and how we were founded. It’s what got that declaration signed.

This madness has to end.

…It appears it is the same Boelter who was appointed to the Governor’s Workforce Development Board in 2019 by Gov. Tim Walz. He appointed to the Governor’s Workforce Development Council in 2016 by then-Gov. Mark Dayton.

UPDATE FROM DAVID:

Word is, among legislators, that Senator Tina Smith was on the list along with at least one Republican legislator. The suspect had flyers–apparently handmade–that said “No Kings.” Although the police has asked people not to attend the rallies, the word came out late and a significant number of people are marching to the Capitol. It does appear that the police are keeping them away from the grounds. 

IF the shooter really IS Vance Boelter, he is part of Praetorian Guard Security Services in Minnesota. He has ties to the Gaza Strip, suggesting a motive.
