Time to Burn It All Down – HotAir

When Democrats are in power, they style themselves Dr. Jekyll; when out of power, they are Mr. Hyde.

To be sure, Democrats are not immune to protests from the far left, but in the main, we get lectures about norms and lectured by politicians like Obama that “elections have consequences.”

When Republicans get elected–and especially when Mr. Trump managed to make his way into office– Democrats spend an awful lot of time explaining why assassins (Luigi Mangione), riots (George Floyd riots), vandalism (Tesla terrorism), and harassment of administration officials are all good, right, and necessary.

Riots and harassment become the norms of the day. In fact, they are promoted as the epitome of democracy. For all the hand waiving about defending democracy, there is nothing that gets a democrat’s blood boiling enough to start burning things down, destroying things, and outright assaulting people more than losing an election or a Republican being in power.

The Democrats are taking their calls to violence up quite a few notches, with even more prominent elected officials calling on their supporters to take to the streets, break the law, #resist every move by Trump, and in effect to intimidate people in a manner that nullifies the election.

Obama had a pen and phone; Donald Trump has a judicial insurrection and opponents who celebrate government employees and officials breaking the law and Democrat Brownshirts taking it to the streets.

Political protests are an American right and tradition, and peaceful protests, however smart or stupid, are an integral part of our political system. Whether you win or lose an election, we not only have the right but the responsibility to promote our values.

But violence and property destruction are not protest. They are on the spectrum of political terrorism, and a threat to those “norms” that Democrats love until they lose.

As I wrote earlier today, Mr. “Norms” himself, David Brooks, is calling for mass protests and celebrating judges–JUDGES!, who are supposed to be pillars of the political order and key proponents of the political order–who break laws because they don’t care for them.

Laws are for the little people. Except, of course, when they are engaged in actual violence against ordinary folks at the behest or with the approval of liberals.

Mass uprisings to overturn the results of an election are, pretty much, an insurrection. That this is what Brooks wants isn’t much in doubt–his column calling for an uprising makes several references to Marx, after all, as Matt Taibbi points out.

When a judge helps a violent criminal escape arrest, Democrats celebrate. When judges hide Tren de Aragua murderers escape justice, they deserve punishment worse than the ordinary criminals because they are siding against the law and decency.

The Founders created a system where there can be peaceful “mass civic uprisings” every two and four years–they are called “elections,” which do indeed have consequences as Mr. Obama pointed out.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Cal.) said “We are here to fight back.” Sen. Cory Booker (D., NJ) called on citizens to “fight” and declared “We will rise up.”

Not to be outdone in the rage fest, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D., TX) yelled, “We are gonna be in your face, we are gonna be on your a–es, and we are going to make sure you understand what democracy looks like, and this ain’t it.”

Rep. LaMonica McIver (D., N.J.) added: “God d—it shut down the Senate!…WE ARE AT WAR!”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., called for Democrats to fight  “in the streets.”

In my recent book, I discuss the role of rage rhetoric in our politics extending back to the very beginning of the Republic. The danger is that it can give a license to some for political violence, including those who claim that they are now triggered by everything from candidates to cars.

Wilson also lashed out at the Laken Riley Act and complained that:

“The Laken Riley Act has caused an increase in detainees, and these are people who have… you could have been here forever… walking across the street, jaywalking, or shoplifting, they will detain you and bring you right here.”

But in Democrats’ minds losing elections make them illegitimate–they can’t and won’t wait to fight it out–so they take to the streets.

It’s Brownshirt tactics, and they revel in them. Expect riots this summer.
