Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles receive, accept White House invitation

The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles are coming to the District. The team received a White House invitation on Monday and “enthusiastically accepted,” according to an administration official. “We are working with them to determine a date and logistics.”

The Eagles blew out the Kansas City Chiefs in last month’s Super Bowl to secure their second Lombardi Trophy. The upcoming White House trip, which does not have a confirmed date, will be the Eagles’ first.

Several Eagles planned to skip a White House trip after winning the Super Bowl in 2018. After hearing the news, President Trump rescinded the invitation entirely, saying players disagreed with his criticism of national anthem protests.

“They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country,” the June 2018 statement said.

During Mr. Trump’s first term, several championship teams, including the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, were not invited to the White House or skipped the traditional trip due to disagreements with the commander in chief.

The Eagles are the second team to accept an invite to the White House during the president’s second administration. Mr. Trump hosted the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers last month.

Trump commended Philadelphia following its 40-22 Super Bowl 2025 win over the Chiefs, the New York Post reported.

“The Eagles were really, it was like flawless football, amazing,” the president said in a radio interview with Mark Levin. “Even the first play, they called it back. It was a long pass, it was, you know, either a touchdown or going to be a touchdown. They called it back, completed long pass, and they went on to get touchdown after touchdown. They really played great.”
