The Secret Service met with General Motors executives this week to discuss the next-generation armored SUVs to be used in the presidential motorcade.
In an X post on Friday, the Secret Service confirmed that Director Sean Curran met with GM leaders at its Global Design Center in Warren, Michigan, this week to discuss “advancements that could benefit the next generation of armored SUVs.”
“Countering evolving threats requires us to constantly explore new innovations and improvements to our armored fleet of protective vehicles,” the post reads.
The post includes a photo of the upcoming version of the presidential limousine, a Cadillac Escalade SUV with American and presidential flags. The Secret Service said it does not know when the armored Escalade will join the presidential fleet.
The meeting follows GM CEO Mary Berra’s conference with President Trump last week, where the two discussed the production of the new limousine.
The Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security awarded GM a $14.8 million contract in September to upgrade the presidential limousine. The contract expires in late 2029 and could be worth more than $40 million.
The current presidential limousine, nicknamed “The Beast,” is a custom-built, armored Cadillac.
GM is in the middle of a 10-year contract with the State Department to supply its Diplomatic Security Service with Heavy Duty Armored Sport Utility Vehicles. The contract, awarded in 2023, is valued at about $300 million.
GM’s defense subsidiary began supplying armored Chevrolet Suburbans to the Qatari armed forces in January.
