Savannah Guthrie’s Mother Disappears; ‘Crime Scene’ – HotAir

Unimaginable. Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie, went missing from her Arizona home over the weekend. When family members could not contact her yesterday, police began a search for the 84-year-old woman, described as “sharp as a tack” but reliant on daily medication to survive.

This morning, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office declared her home a “crime scene,” and investigators still don’t know where Nancy may be:

KVOA has more on the statement from Sheriff Chris Nanos:

According to Nanos, Search and Rescue teams from several teams including Pima County and Border Patrol have been looking for Guthrie. The Pima County Homicide unit is looking at Guthrie’s home.

Nanos tells News 4 Tucson, helicopters were flying over the area for several hours Sunday.

“There are some things there that are concerning and we don’t want to miss anything,” Nanos said. “Search and Rescue ,their mission is, we want to find you – we want to find you safe and sound and help you and get you there. That still continues. But, we have an obligation to – when you look at things in this world of ours, you look at that and you go is there something wrong here, is there something missing? We can’t just dismiss that. We need to stay on.”

Sources told KVOA that around one hundred people are working on the case. Bear in mind that “homicide” divisions can also operate as “major crimes” units as well, so don’t draw conclusions from that as yet.

NBC News is also covering this, of course:

The “TODAY” show opened Monday morning with an update on Nancy Guthrie, with anchor Craig Melvin calling it a “deeply personal story for us.”

The segment featured a statement from Guthrie, who was not anchoring, stating that “on behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support.”

“Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” the statement added. “We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at: 520-351-4900.”

Investigators have gone all-out in their efforts:

Drones, an airplane, a helicopter, volunteers and search-and-rescue dogs loaned from CBP were all scouring the area for Nancy Guthrie, Nanos said.

There is not much more to relate the moment, but we will keep an eye out for developments as they emerge. In the meantime, any readers in Pima County who have information on this case should use the phone number above to relay it to investigators immediately. The rest of us can pray for the Guthrie family and their community, and pray for the safe return of Nancy Guthrie to her loving family.
