Pipe bomb found in D.C.-area storage space

A pipe bomb was discovered at a storage unit in Suitland, Maryland, a suburb of the District of Columbia, at about 5:35 p.m. Wednesday.

The Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department investigated the space, confirmed a bomb was there and safely dealt with the explosive by 9:43 p.m., the department posted on Facebook.

The bomb, a foot-long steel pipe with a fuse, had been found by workers clearing out the container, according to WTOP-FM.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Prince George’s County Office of the Fire Marshal and Police Department are investigating the incident.

PGFD didn’t say whether anyone has been charged criminally for making or storing the explosive.
