Federal officers shot and killed a man in Minneapolis, the third shooting involving government agents amid President Trump’s immigration crackdown.
Video shows several agents wrestling the man to the ground and shooting him multiple times in south Minneapolis early Saturday. The man was struck in the chest and taken to the hospital after CPR was performed at the scene, according to reports.
Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told The Associated Press that the officers were responding to a man who had a gun with two magazines.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said he contacted the White House after the “horrific” shooting.
“Minnesota has had it. This is sickening,” Mr. Walz, a Democrat, said on social media. “The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”
Minneapolis police said the victim was 37.
Bystanders also decried the shooting, screaming profanities at federal officers immediately afterward, calling them “cowards” and telling them to go home, according to reports. One of the agents reportedly said, “Boo hoo.”
Protests continued, with the agitators pushing back against the authorities with tear gas, according to The Minnesota Star Tribune.
This development is the latest shooting involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis in less than three weeks.
Renee Good was shot multiple times in her vehicle during an ICE operation.
A week later, a Venezuelan man was shot in the leg by an immigration officer during a vehicle chase.
The three shootings come during the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement in Minnesota, leading to civil unrest and backlash.
