Defense contractor Lockheed Martin has added a multi-mission radar system to patrol efforts at the southern border to improve threat detection.
Lockheed Martin says the AN/TPQ-53 system was integrated with command and control systems at the southern border this month.
“The AN/TPQ-53 MMR’s proven performance and reliability have earned it a reputation as a trusted asset and its open architecture design ensures it will remain a vital component of USNORTHCOM’s mission to actively work with Customs and Border Protection to secure the southern border,” Rick Cordaro, vice president and general manager of radar sensors and systems, said in a statement.
The AN/TPQ-53 system is built to address the need for precise threat detection at the southern border, helping service members defend against airborne and ground-based threats, the company said. The system can be deployed in minutes and provide 360-degree scanning that rapidly identifies threats.
“The successful integration of the AN-TPQ-53 MMR in the southern border deployment showcases the power of collaboration between industry, government agencies such as the Department of Defense’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office and end-users in addressing complex challenges,” Mr. Cordaro said.
