Defense contractor L3Harris has secured a $90 million sole-source contract with the U.S. Space Force to improve the country’s Space Domain Awareness through the ATLAS launch system.
Under the contract, L3Harris will deliver a series of astrometric tools that will be used to improve the capabilities of the Advanced Tracking and Launch Analysis System. ATLAS is a program developed by L3Harris to increase the Space Force’s command and control and Space Domain Awareness.
This week’s contract is a continuation of a previous contract aimed at improving the command and control capabilities of ATLAS and Space Force. L3Harris said the continuation will help the Space Force achieve its goals.
“We recognize Space Domain Awareness is critical to the Space Force and is essential to defending vital national interests,” said Ed Zoiss, president of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris. “Our work on the ATLAS program will enhance space operations and will help prevent adversaries from disrupting, degrading and destroying U.S. space capabilities.”
The company added that its ATLAS improvements will help U.S. armed forces respond to emerging threats to its satellite network.
The Space Force has spent years cultivating an extensive portfolio of both ground and space-based programs aimed at enhancing Space Domain Awareness. The Space Force’s Space Domain Awareness & Combat Power program funds $10 billion worth of projects.
