An illegal immigrant living in Fairfax County, Virginia, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his 3-month-old daughter.
Misael Lopez Gomez, 28, is being held without bond, according to WTTG-TV.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is trying to keep Lopez Gomez from being freed, according to a Department of Homeland Security news release.
ICE is “asking Virginia sanctuary politicians to not release a criminal illegal alien from jail back onto the streets after he allegedly murdered his three-month-old daughter in cold blood,” the DHS release said.
“This cold-blooded killer murdered his own three-month-old daughter. We are calling on Governor Spanberger to commit to not releasing this barbaric animal from jail into Virginia communities,” Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said.

“This monster should have never been allowed in our country by the Biden administration. We need cooperation from sanctuary politicians to stop criminals from being released from jail to perpetrate more crimes and create more innocent victims,” she said.
Lopez Gomez has admitted that in July 2023, he crossed into the U.S. in New Mexico.
Fairfax County police said they responded to reports of an unresponsive infant in the community of Bailey’s Crossroads around 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to WUSA-TV.

Police ruled “blunt force trauma” was responsible for the child’s death.
The infant was not breathing when police arrived. First responders also tried to revive the child, but she was declared dead at a local hospital.
Police and hospital staff saw indications of abuse on the child, leading to the arrest.
Lopez Gomez has been charged with second-degree murder and felony child abuse. He is currently behind bars without bond.
A DHS news release noted that “Fairfax County has a history of refusing to honor immigration detainers. In late 2025, a criminal illegal alien from El Salvador killed a man just a day after a Fairfax County jail failed to honor an immigration detainer ICE had placed on him.”
“Governor Spanberger signed an executive order that prohibits local and state law enforcement from working with ICE. The executive order repeals the prior order from her Republican predecessor, Governor Glenn Youngkin, which allowed local and state law enforcement to work with ICE,” the release noted.
