A Florida man was arrested and accused of child neglect after deputies were called about an unaccompanied toddler and tracked the boy to his home.
Witnesses saw the 2-year-old in only pajamas and a heavily soiled diaper on Sunday. By the time Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the Palm Coast home of Ross Judy, 44, the child was walking in the middle of the street.
Then deputies investigated Mr. Judy’s residence and found filth, animal feces, an emaciated dog missing fur and dangerous tools, FCSO said in a release.
The deputies also claimed to find alcohol containers, a sink caked in cigarette ash, pill bottles, hypodermic needles and exposed razors that the child would have been able to reach.
“It might as well be a landfill on the inside of the home. That’s how disgusting it looked,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly told Daytona Beach’s WESH.
The toddler, Mr. Judy’s son, was taken to the nearby residence of another relative, according to the TV station.
Mr. Judy has been charged with child neglect without causing great bodily harm, a felony, and abandonment of a sick, infirm or diseased animal to die, a misdemeanor.
He remains in jail on a $4,000 bond, according to FCSO inmate records.
Mr. Judy is also under investigation by animal control officials in Palm Coast and the Florida Department of Children and Families.
