A federal agent working with the Metropolitan Police Department fired gunshots in Northeast after a car chase Thursday. No one was hit.
At about 4:45 p.m., police and federal agents working as part of the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force tried to stop a car for a traffic violation at the intersection of Minnesota Avenue SE and Pennsylvania Avenue SE, a police spokesperson told Washington’s WTOP-FM. The driver then fled in his car.
After the chase proceeded less than 3 miles north to the 3400 block of Benning Road NE, one of the federal agents involved in pursuing the driver opened fire.
No one was struck or hurt in the incident, and police took the driver whom they did not name into custody, according to the radio station.
The federal agent is part of Homeland Security Investigations, the police indicated to Washington’s WRC-TV.
The police told WJLA-TV, another D.C. stadion, that no Metropolitan Police Department officers fired their guns.
The incident is under investigation by the Internal Affairs Bureau. Once the team’s review is finished, the matter will be looked over by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
