I could write 5000, 10,000, or 20,000 words on how badly the Democrats are positioned and playing in the game of national politics, but I work on deadlines writing six posts a day, so I will TL;DR this.
Besides, shorter posts are generally better reads. In the 21st century, our attention spans are shorter, and nobody reads New Yorker articles anymore. At least I got a good alliteration in the headline.
So how ARE Democrats doing?

Not well. Not well at all. They are getting absolutely hammered in the polls, and all those polls were taken BEFORE the Congressional Democrats fell into a civil war that threatens to tear the entire party apart. The Left is furious at the center-left, the House is furious at the Senate, and everybody wants Chuck Schumer drawn and quartered.
The Democrat party’s favorability is at 29% according to @cnn’s poll, the lowest on record for the poll, which started in 1992. https://t.co/hSAR5n0IQq

And that is just Friday’s debacle. Earlier in the week, the Democratic House Caucus was treated to internal polling that told them that anybody who Donald Trump doesn’t derange dislikes them, and even some of them are pretty ticked that Democrats are so incompetent.
Democrats defend illegal alien gang members while trashing Teslas and are shocked their approval is at 29% and sinking faster than Biden’s coherence.

The irony of the Schumer hate is that in this case his assessment of the situation, from a strategic perspective, was actually good for the Democrats. If his colleagues had listened to him and understood his reasons, the Democrats would be better off. There was no good choice, but “shutting down the government” would have given Trump even more power to dismantle the federal bureaucracy.
Think about it: in a shutdown only “essential” employees can keep working, and Trump decides who is essential. Once employees are labeled “inessential,” the political case for cutting them gets stronger. If Trump minimized disruptions that citizens see instead of closing the Washington Monument the case for DOGE gets stronger.
Did you notice that “shutdown?” No? See, DOGE can cut more!
CNN POLL – Democratic Party’s favorability rating stands at 29% – a record low in CNN’s polling dating back to 1992 and a drop of 20 points since January 2021.

The Pravda Media has been amplifying the Narrative that Trump is dropping in the polls, but that is wishcasting. It is true that members of the overeducated class are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, but the rest of the country is giving Trump the benefit of the doubt. They see the uncertainty that others do, but the alternative for them is certainty that things will keep going in the wrong direction.
“It’s funny watching CNN,” says the journalist @robbysoave. “Harry Enten does a good job. He’ll show the poll. And then the person he’s doing the segment with is always shocked that whatever DOGE cut, that the liberal commentator thinks is super unpopular, has as high as 54… pic.twitter.com/3Fh6l7UVVP

That’s why the Right Track/Wrong Track polls are improving. They have yet to reach comfortable levels, but they haven’t been this high in 20 years. Americans have been unhappy what the elite have been doing a long time, so a Trump-style wrecking ball approach may make them nervous, but also hopeful something might change for the better.

Trump is greatly aided by the failure of the Democrats to present an attractive alternative. They keep picking the wrong side of every 80/20 issue, and Americans not only have noticed that but have come to believe that the Democratic Party is persistently wrong. That is a tough image to shake, especially when it is obvious that everything they say is propaganda.
Welker: The Democrat party approval number are at historic lows. Why?
Murphy: The American people just want us to fight Donald Trump harder — because if we don’t, we’ll lose our Democracy.

Under Biden the filibuster was racist; under Trump, Schumer’s failure to exercise it is…helping racist Donald Trump. Schumer is aiding and abetting a Nazi!
🔥SAVAGE: Scott Jennings praises Chuck Schumer’s “pure courage” for helping “defeat a racist Jim Crow filibuster in the Senate” —

The Democratic Party Civil War is a YUGE problem for them. With so much discord they can’t even do the one thing they alone think makes them strong: control the Narrative™. The Pravda Media can’t even help spread their message because they HAVE no message to spread.
Hakeem Jeffries is snapping at reporters, and AOC is calling out Schumer.

In fact, the one thing Pravda likes better than licking the shoes of Democrats is covering conflict of any kind. It is their bread and butter for getting eyeballs, and the conflict among Democrats makes for good TV. So, ironically, the Democrats’ best ally has no incentive to help them come together. It will likely fan the flames because it will help their ratings.
To give you an idea of how deep the democrat dive into the abyss has become, look at this from the CNN poll:
Democrats, who overwhelmingly consider Trump too extreme, have yet to consolidate around any one-party leader to serve as a counterpoint. Asked in an open-ended question to name the Democratic leader they feel “best reflects the core values” of the party, 10% of Democratic-aligned adults name New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 9% former vice president Kamala Harris, 8% Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and 6% House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Another 4% each name former president Barack Obama and Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett, with Schumer joining a handful of others at 2%.
More than 30% didn’t offer a name in response. “No one,” one respondent answered. “That’s the problem.”
When AOC tops your list of leaders, you are in trouble. Barack Obama and Jasmine Crockett are tied. Geez.
Unfortunately for us, Tim Walz is at only 1%, and he is the one traveling the country to rally the troops. If only it were the case that he was seen as the leader. WE would own politics for two decades if Democrats were that stupid.
Things are looking bleak for Democrats, but it is a long time between now and November 2026. As it looks now, the only thing that can save Democrats is Trump cratering in approval, and there is, as of now, no sign of that yet.
