It’s Flag Day tomorrow, which is kind of being lost in all the sauce about Trump’s birthday, the Army’s 250th birthday (Well done, y’all!), and then, of course, the turds with their NoKings plans.
Flag Day honors the day in 1777 when the United States, infant nation that we were, adopted the Stars and Stripes.I splurged this year and have two new flags to celebrate this 250th anniversary year of our founding. One is our current ensign, and the other is a shiny new Betsy Ross.
I have been especially partial to that flag after Nike indulged Colin Kaepernick’s *spits* anti-American hissy fit, and pulled their Betsy Ross sneakers. I had so hoped to snag a pair.
I have purchased nothing Nike-made since and badmouth them every chance I get.
I also have a problem with people who wrap themselves in the flag as an afterthought, or worse, think it’s a get-out-of-the-hot-seat-free card.
Democrats, especially in the past few cycles, have always had a mostly hate relationship with Old Glory. They only feign affection for her when forced into it.

I’m not ashamed to admit I cry like a baby when I see a big, beautiful American flag somewhere. Not the one on a field at a game or anything so obvious. But a massive one hanging off a bridge or at the top of a construction crane. The one whose pole has been tied to our truck’s bumper after hurricanes until we got power back, and the one that stood proudly but forlornly in the yard after 9-11 for months.
The flags at Barrancas National Cemetery on Memorial Day.
The big American flag, so magnificent in the gloaming over Joe Patti Seafood’s massive shrimp sign downtown. I’ve stopped in the middle of the street to take a picture through runny eyes.
It all tugs at my heart.
What bugs the crap out of me is watching people realize the flags they’ve been arrogantly and defiantly waving aren’t sending the message they thought they were sending.
That maybe what they were flaunting in Americans’ faces as they rampaged through the streets and left a flaming trail of destruction behind them was doing more harm than good.
CNN: ‘Mexican Flag Has Become a Defining Symbol’ of Los Angeles Riots
CNN, the left-leaning media conglomerate, has declared that the Mexican flag is “a defining symbol” of riots across Los Angeles, California, over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents enforcing federal immigration laws.
Days worth of photos and footage from the riots have depicted rioters burning cars, assaulting police, and throwing bricks at vehicles, all while waving the Mexican flag.
CNN, in a piece titled “The Mexican flag has become a defining symbol of the LA protests,” is boasting that rioters are using the foreign flag to “express solidarity with immigrants and denounce the Trump administration’s raids…”
But the waving of foreign flags speaks to the generations of people from Mexico and other Latin American countries who have called the US, and particularly California, home, Hinojosa-Ojeda, the UCLA professor, said. [Emphasis added]
“The flags mean their families. The flags mean their communities. It’s not about having an international invasion,” he added. [Emphasis added]
That the few American flags seen were either upside down on their poles – the distress signal – or were being used as tinder.

And props for poor undocumented immigrants who wished to more dramatically express their dismay at the thought of the government’s deportation efforts.

Cycnically and expeditiously, as the backlash against the visuals grew, American flags began to appear.
Yes. Masked individuals are handing out brand-new American flags to rioters in Los Angeles. Online, they say this is to counter the (accurate) perception from the prior days that the violence is an insurrection by hostile radicals loyal to foreign nations who want to see U.S.… https://t.co/WqRIPP3d5b

We saw y’all.
…Mexican flags have become so prominent at the riots that organizers are now reportedly handing out American flags following intense criticism.
We saw a United States senator act like a street goon, too, and now his colleagues want to wrap themselves in the flag as if they had been wearing it the whole time.
A ‘fresh embrace’?
An expedient, desperate one. Democrats are being forced into American flags again.
Democrats’ newest approach to win back voters is a fresh embrace of the nation’s oldest symbol.
…It was a 4-inch-by-6-inch American flag, which they passed out at almost the exact moment, unbeknownst to them, that Sen. Alex Padilla was getting forcibly removed and handcuffed at a Homeland Security press conference in Los Angeles — an act House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries would later call “unpatriotic.”
The flags, made in Deluzio’s Pennsylvania, came with a message in an accompanying dear colleague letter written by Ryan, a West Point grad who served two tours in Iraq, and Deluzio, a U.S. Navy officer who was also deployed there. They have joined forces to become co-chairs of the first-ever, 18-member Democratic Veterans Caucus, formed just three days ago.
“Patriotism does not belong to one party,” the letter read. “The flag, and the values it stands for, belong to every single American.”
As Democrats look for a message to rebut the MAGA right, they are looking within their own ranks for a credible message against the overreach of those holding power.
The flag and the ‘values it stands for.’
How quaint, coming from them. It doesn’t surprise me that they have to be reminded of it by two veterans.
I doubt many members will take one of their gifts. If they do, they’ll hold it gingerly, with two fingers, set it down as quickly as possible, and they won’t remember for long a thing the note said.
The majority of Democrats have picked the flags they stand behind.

Hey. We’ve seen y’all.
We would all be better off if the Democrats could stop Zoom calling progressive consultants for brainstorming solutions and just accept what they’ve done to themselves.
All the red, white, and blue in the world can’t swaddle the antipathy for our flag nor stifle the stench that permeates a party that holds their fellow Americans in so little regard for the love they carry for this great country.
Nah.
They’ve clearly chosen their flags and chosen to champion who’s waving them.
It’s too little, too late for a last gasp 1776 revival when the most prominent members of your party would still happily point out neighbors’ houses to Banastre Tarleton’s dragoons.
We’ve seen y’all.
Meanwhile, I’ve got a gorgeous hunk of Old Glory to get ready to go tomorrow, and I heard there’s a bitchin’ parade planned.
God bless America.
