Dogs kidnapped in Switzerland for $1.1 million ransom recovered safely

A pair of Bolonka dogs kidnapped in Switzerland were retrieved in Poland this week and returned to their owner.

On Feb. 24, the owner of the two Bolonkas returned to his apartment to find his dogs missing and a ransom note demanding over $1.1 million, the Zurich Cantonal Police explained in a release Saturday.

The police arrested one of the theft’s suspects, a 30-year-old Norwegian, who was trying to leave Switzerland via the Zurich Airport on Feb. 27. From there, ZCP investigators followed their leads to a 38-year-old Polish national also accused of being involved in the kidnapping.

Police in Poland arrested the older of the two suspects and recovered the dogs Wednesday. The owner went to Poland and picked up his Bolonkas on Friday.

Neither of the two suspects were named by ZCP. While the Polish suspect is being investigated in his homeland, the Norwegian remains in custody in Switzerland.
