Nobody knew about the COVID-19 virus in particular at the time, but there is plenty of evidence that it was circulating in Wuhan in mid-2019, and US soldiers who participated in the World Military Games held in Wuhan in October 2019.
But as part of a Congressionally mandated investigation, the Biden administration was required to report to Congress any evidence that soldiers contracted the virus on their trip to China, and Biden’s Pentagon not only failed to disclose that their records indicated that soldiers had likely contracted the disease, but they outright denied it when asked in 2021.
The Biden administration conducted the Congressionally-mandated review, but despite a requirement to release the results in 2022, they failed to do so. Now that Trump is back in office and Pete Hegseth is Secretary of Defense, the report has finally been released.

From the beginning of the public’s awareness that the pandemic was raging, US government officials have scrambled to cover up the timing and origin of the virus, concocting narratives that distracted from the obvious conclusion that the virus escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology and that it had been circulating long before it was publicly acknowledged.

At the beginning of the crisis, the coverup was not a whole-of-government effort, but the people who needed to cover up the origins of COVID were the best-placed people to do so–Anthony Fauci in particular, who happened to be the man most responsible for funneling money to the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the EcoHealth Alliance. He’s the one who scrambled to divert attention away from the WIV, commissioned the fraudulent “Proximal Origins” paper, edited it anonymously, got it published in Nature, and then pushed it out into the media as if it were a credible third-party evaluation.
He lobbied, successfully, the CIA to change its conclusion that the virus likely escaped from the WIV, and once that happened the resources of the government were committed. The FBI and Energy Department were not on board, but neither were they vocal or paid attention to.

As far as I can tell, the people at the top of the Trump administration were totally conned, and by the time anybody had figured out that Fauci was a con man, it was far too late to change the narrative. As you know, my biggest critique of the first Trump administration is that the Deep State outmaneuvered Trump’s team, this time embodied by Fauci, Birx, and the Intelligence Community, which collaborated to take him down using COVID policies against him.
The Biden administration went all-in with Fauci and company, so it is no surprise that Mark Milley’s Department of Defense was willing to lie directly to Congress and the American people about its soldiers likely getting COVID in October 2019 when they were in Wuhan.
Seven Americans may have contracted COVID-19 in Wuhan in October 2019, several months before the reported start of the pandemic, according to a bombshell military report obtained by the Washington Free Beacon that the Biden administration concealed from the public.
The December 2022 report, which the Biden administration was required by law to release to the public over two years ago but didn’t, reveals for the first time that seven U.S. military service members contracted COVID-19-like symptoms during or after their participation in the World Military Games in Wuhan in October 2019—contradicting the Biden administration’s public claims in 2021 that there was no evidence that any American participants contracted the virus at those games. The revelation adds to a mounting body of evidence that the virus was circulating in Wuhan for months before China disclosed it to the world in December 2019 and further bolsters the growing consensus that it could have leaked into the human population from a Chinese lab.
The 2022 National Defense Authorization Act required the Biden administration to make its report on the 2019 Wuhan World Military Games “publicly available on an internet website in a searchable format” by the summer of 2022. Though the Biden administration transmitted copies of the two-page report to the House and Senate Armed Services Committees in December 2022, it didn’t see the light of day until sometime in late March when the Trump administration quietly uploaded it to a Defense Department website.
It is easy enough to see how, early in 2020, nobody in the military would have connected seven soldiers getting ill in Wuhan in October 2019 to a pandemic that became worldwide news in January 2020. But the Congressionally mandated report was designed exactly to do a retrospective analysis to see whether something like this happened. And when the Biden administration and Mark Milley didn’t like the answers, they buried them–violating the law in doing so.
The potential COVID-19 illnesses from the American participants in the Wuhan World Military Games appear to have been a closely guarded secret of the Defense Department. Chinese authorities have suggested since as early as February 2020 that America could have unleashed COVID-19 into Wuhan through their participation in the World Military Games. Former Biden Defense Department spokesman John Kirby told the Washington Post in June 2021 that the military had “no knowledge” of any COVID-19 infections among the troops that participated in those games.

Knowledge that U.S. troops may have contracted COVID-19 in Wuhan during the October 2019 games may have been well received by U.S. allies. Military athletes from Germany, France, Italy, and Luxembourg who competed in the October 2019 games also reported coming down with COVID-19-like symptoms during their stay in Wuhan, which they described as a “ghost town,” the Daily Mail reported.
Ebright, one of the most prominent academic proponents of the theory that COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, said he was appalled that the Biden administration concealed crucial information about the first potential American cases of the virus from the public amid the ongoing debate over the pandemic’s origins.
“It is an outrage that the Biden White House and the 118th Congress Senate and House Armed Services Committees did not publicly release this information when it became available in 2022, but, instead, withheld this information for the duration of their terms,” Ebright told the Free Beacon.
“This new information strengthens U.S. and allied intelligence data indicating that COVID-19 was circulating in Wuhan in October-November 2019, U.S. and allied intelligence data indicating that researchers working with genetically enhanced SARS viruses at Wuhan Institute of Virology contracted COVID-19 in October-November 2019, and phylogenomic data indicating that the virus that causes COVID-19 entered humans in July-November 2019.”
The COVID pandemic era lies and manipulation of the public make the Pentagon Papers’ revelations look pretty mild in comparison. There was a coordinated campaign not only to deceive the public but to slander, censor, and personally destroy all dissenters from the government-approved narrative. Government officials seized unprecedented amounts of power and a campaign to demonize about half the country was put in place. Anthony Fauci was promoted as a living god and is still celebrated as a hero.
It was all lies and coverups, and what started as a closely-held conspiracy coordinated by the public health community blossomed under Biden into a whole-of-government effort.
One thing I would like to know: who decided to release the report with so little fanfare? It is hard to believe that somebody at the Secretary of Defense level hunted this down and had it released, especially by hiding it in an obscure place. Was somebody doing a CYA–release the report and bury it in an obscure place? Was there a general order to ensure compliance with all mandates? Or did some Pentagon bureaucrat know that Biden wanted it buried and now wants to cover his behind should his lack of compliance with Congressional mandates be discovered? After all, some people in Congress still wanted it out there.
The Defense Department uploaded the report sometime in late March to a section of its website dedicated to “quality-of-life” issues for military service members and their families. The Wuhan World Military Games report is sandwiched between two separate reports on military spouses obtaining occupational licenses.
Obviously, Pete Hegseth has a lot on his plate and compared to his primary duties, tracking this down would be low on the priority list, but it would be nice to know who made the decision to bury the report and why they dumped it out so secretly, burying it along with exciting reports on spouses getting occupational licenses. Somebody worried they would get in trouble for violating the law.
