Trump Posts Video, Claims Iran’s Military Leadership Just Went Up In Smoke – HotAir

Did Donald Trump accelerate his ultimatum deadline? A new post on Truth Social claims that a series of strikes within the last hour or two has decapitated Iran’s military leadership:

If that version doesn’t work for you, here’s a repost on Twitter:

This comes five hours or so after Trump also posted a reminder of the April 6 deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He warned Iran’s military leadership, which has become basically a junta after the death of Ali Khamenei, that they only had 48 hours to avoid “all Hell”:

Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT. Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Interestingly, the Iranian military junta had just announced that they would allow Iraq to ship oil through the Strait as a “brotherly country,” despite their neutrality thus far in the war:

Iran has cleared the way for Iraq to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, declaring it a “brotherly country” that is exempt from restrictions that have left western vessels stuck in the Persian Gulf since the U.S. and Israel launched their war more than a month ago. The restrictions are imposed only on “enemy countries,” said Ebrahim Zolfaghari, a spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters. Iran’s control of the strait—through which one-fifth of the world’s oil typically passes—has become its biggest leverage in the conflict.

The US and Israel have conducted strikes on Tehran for well over a month now. Usually, they wait for a while before making specific claims about targets of strikes. It took several hours before either Trump or Netanyahu would confirm the death of Khamenei on the first day, and both also waited for corroboration on the death of Ali Larijani, the most significant regime figure after the former ayatollah. In none of these cases did Trump personally make the first announcement. The reason for that caution is to avoid being embarrassed by incorrect claims, and to have expectations of progress blow up in one’s face, so to speak.

What’s different about today? Trump either wants to rattle the IRGC, which seems unlikely to get rattled in that particular way, or he has specific real-time intel about what we targeted and achieved. If it’s the latter, it may be another of those moments in which real-time intel tracked several top officials to one spot, as happened in the initial strike on Khamenei’s palace on the first moment of the war.

So far, though, there are no other reports on what was hit and who got eliminated, if anyone. Stand by for more reporting on this. It may be a while before we know anything.

Update: Duane makes a good point:

All these other strikes are attention-getters to remind them their time is about up. The 10-day red line expires tomorrow.

They may also be an attempt to get new leaders to make different decisions. Earlier, the US and Israel hit the complex around the nuclear reactor in Bushehr after getting the Russians to evacuate it. The point is getting made in escalating attacks near key Iranian energy infrastructure. This may be a form of Israel’s “knock knock” tactics designed to warn civilians to evacuate upcoming targets, only more of a warning about escalation. In this case, perhaps the warnings are intended for the next round of junta leadership, or those who could finally oust the IRGC from control of Iran.

Update:  Was this the target?

It doesn’t look like a location for anything other than a high-value regime target. Did the strike succeed? Stay tuned.

Editor’s Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
