Turning Point USA has finally sent a cease and desist letter to Candace Owens, which seems like a last ditch attempt to warn her off her present course before filing a lawsuit. Owens is responding exactly as you would expect, by a) turning the letter into more content for her show and b) by lashing out at TPUSA saying the law is “gay.”
Candace is throwing a tantrum.
She said Erika should’ve called her before sending a cease-and-desist.
Reminder: Erika already sat through a 3+ hour meeting with Candace.

She went on to say that TPUSA is as likely to stop her from talking about them as they are to stop the sun from rising. She adds that she’s willing to pay TPUSA whatever they want and expects she can raise that money from her supporters overnight.
Candace tries to act macho and challenges TPUSA amid a freshly served cease and desist:

But we are learning something about the case against Owens because she read a portion of the letter out loud. It turns out she was under an pretty standard NDA as part of a speaking contract she had with TPUSA which she didn’t cancel until December. According to TPUSA, that meant she was obligated not to trash the organization for another year beyond that point. She’s clearly violated that, hence her stated willingness to just pay up. Here’s her reading of the letter.

So what could happen here? Well, it seems pretty clear she is going to be sued for damages and attorney’s fees. Given the NDA contract, this should be open and shut. In fact, it’s not just the contract, it’s also the fact that Owens met with Erika Kirk who corrected her on these points and gave her documents showing the truth. Despite that, Owens has been insinuating for months that the company is part of an assassination plot against their own founder. So she could also be facing a defamation claim and it’s hard to see how she does anything but lose the case at trial.
Still, Owens is married to someone very wealthy so it’s not like this is going to land her in the poor house. She seems to have found a unique niche whereby she has enough of a following that she can potentially make more from making up these fantasy stories about Kirk’s death than she is likely to ever lose by being sued over those false stories. As she says in the video above, she expects to be able to raise in a single day whatever amount of money TPUSA might demand. And that means that all the money she’s made from her show by attacking the organization for the past several months is just earnings for her. Even if she loses, she comes out ahead financially. That seems to be her plan.
In fact, she seems to be taking the same approach to the lawsuit from the Macrons. She could lose millions if she loses the case, but will it be more or less than the money she made off the topic already? Can she put out a call for support to make up those losses. So long as making up stuff about people is a financial winner, there’s little incentive for her to stop.
