President Donald Trump’s plans to build a new White House ballroom continue to send Democrats and the Left into full meltdown mode.
Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., is the latest to suffer from what Republicans are calling Ballroom Derangement Syndrome.
Swalwell blasted the ballroom construction on X, demanding that Democrat presidential candidates vow to destroy the building at first opportunity. “Don’t even think of seeking the Democratic nomination for president unless you pledge to take a wrecking ball to the Trump Ballroom on DAY ONE.”
The California representative then proposed leaving the structure but eventually renaming it “The Barack Obama Ballroom.”
Fox News reported that the upcoming White House ballroom is “a $250 million project financed by President Trump and private donors,” which will be able to host up to 650 guests as “the first dedicated ballroom in White House history.”
George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley exposed Swalwell’s Trump Derangement Syndrome on X. “Just when you thought that our political dialogue could not become more reckless. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., demanded a litmus test for any Democratic presidential nominee: you must pledge to bulldoze the $350 million Trump ballroom…”
“…So leaders are now focusing on performative demolitions as a pitch for voters. While Miley Cyrus rode a wrecking ball to success, it is doubtful that Swalwell can ride the rage to relevance in politics.”
Conservatives have called out the left-wing hypocrisy over the construction, noting that Democrats raised no objections when former President Barack Obama undertook a $376 million White House renovation in 2010—a detail highlighted in a CNN clip now resurfacing on X.
Meanwhile, according to The Hill, even former Jill Biden spokesperson Michael LaRosa believes the ballroom is needed, and although the demolition of the East Wing might be “sad,” La Rosa believes was “probably needed.”
Still, ABC News is focused on the construction’s impact on the White House grounds, claiming that two historic magnolia trees were removed. The trees date back to the 1840s and had been dedicated to Presidents Warren G. Harding and Franklin D. Roosevelt. ABC News also reports that, according to satellite imagery, the demo has removed the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden.
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles assures the public in a statement on the White House website that the historic property will be protected:
“President Trump is a builder at heart and has an extraordinary eye for detail. The President and the Trump White House are fully committed to working with the appropriate organizations to preserving the special history of the White House while building a beautiful ballroom that can be enjoyed by future Administrations and generations of Americans to come.”
