Trump: ‘major’ trade deal coming Thursday

President Trump teased a “major trade deal” to be announced Thursday, saying there will be more.

In a Wednesday evening social media post, Mr. Trump said the announcement would be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Oval Office. It will involve “representatives of a big, and highly respected, country.”

“The first of many!!!” he said.

He teased the announcement earlier this week while meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, saying it was “as big as it gets” and described it as “very positive.”

“It’ll be one of the most important announcements that have been made in many years about a certain subject, very important subject,” Mr. Trump said.

He said at the time that it wouldn’t be “necessarily on trade.”

Mr. Trump has maintained that deals will be pouring in as the administration continues negotiating trade deals with several countries that are looking to combat his threatened tariffs.

Administration officials have said India, Japan and South Korea are the most likely countries to reach a U.S. trade agreement first.
