President Trump on Tuesday broke the record for the longest address to a joint session of Congress.
He spoke for nearly an hour and 40 minutes, according to the American Presidency Project at the University of California at Santa Barbara. The project has been tracking speech lengths since former President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.
Mr. Trump broke his own records from past speeches and State of the Union addresses — his previous longest being roughly an hour and 22 minutes in February 2019.
The previous record for the longest State of the Union address was held by President Clinton, who spoke for roughly one hour and 28 minutes in 2000.
The third longest address was also an address by Mr. Clinton, who spoke for roughly one hour and 24 minutes in 1995.
