Sleeping woman burned alive on New York City subway train

A woman was set ablaze and died Sunday morning after police said a man threw a lit match on the victim while she slept inside a New York City subway car.

New York Police Department officials said officers found the unidentified woman engulfed in flames when they responded to the idling train in Coney Island around 7:30 a.m.

Police said officers extinguished the flames and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

The assailant ran away and remains at large as of Sunday afternoon.

Authorities released photos of the suspect showing a man believed to be 5’6” with a dark complexion, possibly Hispanic, and who is between the ages of 25 and 30. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and brown boots.

The fiery killing came hours after an argument escalated into deadly bloodshed aboard a separate subway train in Queens.

Police said a 69-year-old man stabbed two men in their 20s shortly after midnight Sunday.

One of the men was stabbed in the face, and the other was fatally stabbed in the chest.

Through September, eight people had been killed while riding the rails in New York City, up from five killed through the same time period last year.
